In my years as a marketing professional, I've always been struck by how resource-constrained (even in the largest, best-resourced companies) my colleagues and I have been to get things done. Of course, the targets don't reflect this. As marketers, we're expected to deliver growth and deliver it now! Typically this is approached in a rather piecemeal fashion - an e-newsletter here, a direct mail there...maybe throwing in some basic analytics for good measure. But we all know that the best marketing impact is going to be from a coordinated approach where campaign messages are defined early on, aligned with the business objectives at hand, timed and executed using best practices - and then exhaustively measured so that continuous improvement is not only an option but is obvious.
The problem is, though, that most agencies have a tendency to be good at creative strategy, but are not typically "expert" in each tactical element of a marketing plan. But as online marketing evolves, the "online marketers" of this world are specializing. So we now have experts in email marketing, media buying, search engine marketing, social media marketing...the list goes on and on.
Now, to find these experts is another thing entirely. The pace of change in online marketing is much faster than any big company can keep up with. So the innovation is happening at the individual level: experts who are passionate about finding powerful new ways to use the internet to achieve business objectives. This is who you'll find here.
And of course, managing all of these experts is a full-time job in and of itself. This is where the Communologi consultants come in - we've been in your shoes, so can act as an extended version of the marketing manager - working with marketing professionals on the strategy, finding the ideal mix of online marketing, and ensuring that the execution is second-to-none.
I'd like to encourage the marketing experts to share their expertise here. Both clients and partners are welcome here, so this is a great place to "show your stuff" and help others learn from your experience. Because ultimately, we're all learning here. That's the beauty of the internet as a marketing tool: it provides a level of unparalleled data-driven insight so we can learn and improve, learn and improve, learn and improve...and so on.
